We get it because we've lived it.
Otto's founder, Alex McIntosh, grew up in Western Canada, where his family owned a chain of optical stores. Long before he could legally work, he was in the thick of it — the surfacing lab, the sales floor, the head office — learning the business and spotting every place it could be better.
One problem stuck with him: patients quietly leaking out to online and big-box retailers. And he realized it wasn't just his family's problem — it plagued the entire industry.
So in 2019, Alex sold everything he owned, moved out of his apartment, and flew to Asia — where he spent a year and a half living on $10 a day to bring his vision to life. In early 2021, Otto was born.
